I didn't realize what they were saying. They were telling me to leave, but I just thought I was supposed to take a walk or something. No...they wanted me to leave permanently. I never felt so alone in my whole life.

was 20 when I came out to my parents, when I was in college, and they disowned me pretty much instantly.

Ok so, I never officially came out in high school as I was raised in a very conservative Southern Missionary Baptist church. The closest was preparing a talk for my Bible club at school where I suggested we befriend gay people to show them God's love. This was met with swift resistance...

I've been the good kid all my life. My parents treated me like the heir apparent. My sisters hated it and sometimes I think they hated me. But today, when I came out to them, my parents treated me like I was trash - something to be thrown out.
